Growing caffee was a privilege of the Arabian Peninsula. For a long time coffee was used as an extraordinary stimulant only. In the 15th century, coffee was firstly introduced as a basic essence of hot drinks. People appreciated not only its significance taste and stimulating effects, but also, and above all, the therapeutic effect.

The Dutchmen earned the greatest merit of spreading the coffee plantation to other parts in the world. Drinking coffee gradually got spread over the whole Europe. This fact led to setting up café shops. In the 17thcentury, café shops were set up in Paris, Wien, Berlin.  In 18thcentury, drinking coffee got spread to the county the Czech Republic is now.

The very first coffeehouse r in Prague was a citizen from Damascus, who settled down himself in Karlova street in Stare Mesto. He earned the foundation of a first café in Prague. There were hundreds of the by the end of 18thcentury there.

The greatest cafeterias boom is dated back to the 1stRepublic. At those days a coffeehouse in the Vinohradska Street 31 was set up in Prague. The coffeehouse is still there. In September 2012 we celebrated 10thanniversary since the Café Faux Pas was set up there.
